Filipino Migrant Center (FMC) was one of the reasons why Filipino Youth in Action (FYA) exists.

Many migrant youth have a hard time adjusting to the culture, the language, and the educational system in the United States. Newly arrived migrant youth are also unaware about the available resources that are offered in the community. Due to this, it is important for migrant youth like us to have a safe space to share about our stories and find solutions collectively.

When we learned about the programs of FMC, including the youth programs, we used it as an opportunity to help develop our leadership skills and have a united voice in the community. Most of our current FYA members participated in Sama Sama Summer Youth Program and Filipinos Reaching for Education and Empowerment (FREE).

Through mentorship, retreats, workshops, and events that FMC offered, we learned about the experiences of Filipino youth in the United States more deeply.

It encouraged us to work together and help other migrant youth who are going through the same struggle. We want to fight and let our voices be heard which motivated us to build our own organization!
